Why your TikTok views are dropping (and the plan to bounce back)
Shadowban or not? The 6 real causes of a drop in TikTok views, the 10-minute diagnosis in your analytics, and a 14-day relaunch plan.
You used to get 20,000 views, now you get 300. Nothing changed in how you do things, and yet. Before you cry shadowban: 9 times out of 10 there's an identifiable cause, and a plan to climb back. Here's how to diagnose it, then the 14-day relaunch.
First: the "shadowban" almost never explains everything
Real restrictions exist (reported content, broken rules, trying to dodge a penalty) and they're obvious: videos at 0-50 views, no more appearances in "For You", sometimes a notification. If your videos still get a few hundred views and the hashtag/sound works in search, you're not restricted. You're just being pushed less — and that can be fixed.
The 6 causes that keep coming back (in order of frequency)
- You slowed down. A 2-3 week break and the algorithm "forgets" your account: your next videos restart from a smaller test. This is cause #1.
- Your hooks repeat. Same intro, same format, same sound: people who've already seen you scroll past, your retention drops, TikTok stops pushing.
- You changed topic. Your audience followed you for X, you post Y: the first test happens in front of people who aren't there for that.
- A string of flops. 4-5 weak videos in a row and TikTok shrinks the size of your tests. You have to "prove yourself again".
- The season / the niche. Holidays, back to school, exams: some niches breathe. Compare yourself to other creators in your niche before panicking.
- A technical issue. Over-compressed video, unreadable captions, cut-off sound, text hidden by the interface. Watch your video like a stranger would, on a phone.
10-minute diagnosis in your analytics
Open TikTok → Creator tools → Analytics, and look at three things across your last 10 videos:
| Indicator | Where | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 3-second retention | Video details → watch-time curve | Under 60%: hook problem. People leave before they've understood. |
| Traffic sources | Video details → Sources | If "For You" drops under 50%, the algorithm isn't pushing you anymore: your views come from your followers. |
| Views at 1 hour | Note it by hand | Compare video by video. If it suddenly drops, look for the video that broke the streak. |
Is your growth stalling or dropping?
The analysis compares your recent videos to your older ones (Growth criterion), looks at your consistency and retention, and tells you where to start.

Days 1-2: clean-up
- Delete or set to private your 2-3 weakest recent videos (the ones at almost 0 views and 0 retention). It doesn't directly improve the algorithm, but your profile looks clean again for people who tap on it.
- Redo your bio: one clear sentence about what you do, a CTA. Newcomers decide in 2 seconds whether to follow you or not.
Days 3-9: prove yourself again
- 1 video a day, short (7-15 s), on your main topic, each with a different hook (question, number, contradiction, "nobody tells you that…").
- 2 of those 7 videos on a trend (sound or format), your way.
- Reply to every comment within the hour. Reply to the best one with a video.
Days 10-14: build on it
- Take the video that did best: make a part 2 and a variation (same idea, different angle).
- Go back to a sustainable pace (3-4 a week) but a fixed one: that's what prevents a relapse.
If after 14 days nothing moves despite genuinely different hooks and consistency, then the topic itself may have plateaued: that's the moment to test a neighboring format, not to change everything.
The 3 mistakes that sink a relaunched account again
- Reposting the same video "to give it another chance": the algorithm recognizes it, it plateaus.
- Buying views/followers: the first test then happens in front of fake accounts that don't react → your real videos flop.
- Posting 5 videos a day for 3 days, then nothing. Consistency, not bursts.
Key takeaways
- A drop in views is almost always a break, repeated hooks, a topic change or a string of flops — not a shadowban.
- Diagnose with 3-second retention and the "For You" share in your sources.
- 14 days: clean-up, 7 short videos with different hooks + 2 trends, then build on it and hold a pace.
